We are officially into the “Dog Days of Summer”, which I was surprised to find has NOTHING to do with the heavy panting experienced by our newly-acquired border collie (“Layla”) in the summer heat, but rather EVERYTHING to do with the constellation Canis Major and its brightest star in the night sky – Sirius, the Dog Star. To those in the astronomical milieu, the summer return of Sirius to the night sky is known as a heliacal rising, which happened sometime around 17 July this year. Accordingly, it is now time to turn our attention to the next major milestones of the season all happening on the same day – the July full moon, the overlapping summer meteor showers, and the monthly RTX/Raytheon/E-Systems Retiree Luncheon.
Sirius-ly, we plan on assembling at 11:00 on Wednesday, 29 July at the Golden Corral Banquet/Meeting Room at their location near the intersection of Centerville and LBJ Freeway in Garland. We should be done by 12:30. The actual address is 1420 Eastgate Drive, Garland, TX 75041.
